Fun Things To Do at Lake Geneva this Weekend July 28-29 Edition

Music, Lobsters, Fireworks and Art – who could ask for more fun things to do at Lake Geneva than that?

This weekend is going to be a really fun weekend around Geneva Lake.  If you’ve come up to Lake Geneva on vacation or find yourself looking for things to do, here’s a few great options that you’ll enjoy!

Fontana Lobster Boil - Every year on the last weekend in July, the Village of Fontana hosts it’s annual Lobster Boil!  Each year the event gets bigger and bigger!  Organized by the Bigfoot Lion’s Club, this year marks 29 years serving up this great event!  Saturday, July 28th the Lobster Boil takes place at Reid Park on Fontana’s Lakefront.  It’s the perfect spot to get a great meal and support the community if you are staying at The Abbey Resort, just across the street!  Dinners are served starting at 2:00 pm and run $34 for a lobster dinner and $22 for steak dinner.  Last year the Bigfoot Lions served over 2,400 people and this year they are hoping to add another 200 dinners to the event.

Richard Driehaus Birthday Party - Every July well-known philanthropist Richard Driehaus holds his birthday party for his closest friends and fellow philanthropists at his Lake Geneva lakefront estate.  It has become an event that many locals look forward to as he has a spectacular fireworks display after dark.  Many people stay out later on their boats to watch the display.  Others book a late dinner at the Grandview Room at the Geneva Inn for one of the best seats in the house!

Art in the Bay - If you’re looking for great art this weekend, Saturday and Sunday Williams Bay is holding their annual Art in the Bay.  You’ll find everything from oil paintings to pottery and glass-work.  It’s a great opportunity to meet the artists and see where their inspiration comes from.  As a graduate of the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, art events are something I love sharing about locally!  Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. stop by Edgewater Park (On Geneva Street, across from Cafe Calamari) you never know if you’ll find the perfect piece of art for your new lake home.

This Sunday – Music By The Lake Family Concert

Are you looking for fun things to do in Lake Geneva with kids this weekend?

This Sunday, Music by the Lake at George Williams College  is featuring a family concert.  Tom Chapin & Friends put on a great show that kids below 4′ tall and those of us just acting like kids can enjoy!  Last year was the first year that Tom Chapin played at Music by the Lake and people had so much fun, they asked him to come back this year!

Music by the Lake started in 2001 at Aurora University’s George Williams Campus location in Williams Bay, WI.  The Ferro Pavilion which now stands there allows for performances to take place rain or shine.  The setting is on the shore of beautiful Geneva Lake and various performances take place all summer long.

Lake Geneva Concerts in the Park – Thursdays all Summer

Being in the middle of summer in Lake Geneva WI brings tons of fun things to do with kids around the area!

Thursdays throughout Summer - 7 p.m. Flat Iron Park, Lake Geneva, WI

Thursday nights mean great music, beautiful sunsets and fun times in downtown Lake Geneva!  If you like music of all varieties, then you’ll want to put Thursday evening on your calendar for the remainder of summer!  Starting in July and running every Thursday for the rest of summer, Flat Iron Park hosts a free concert each week.  With unique bands, musicians and performers ever week offers a different flavor.

Flat Iron Park is located on the triangle between Wrigley Drive and Center Street!  This year they built a brand new gazebo at Flat Iron Park and have created a special stage area just for performances.   Flat Iron Park is the perfect location to watch the sunset behind the Riviera over Geneva Lake.  If you’re making it a date night, Sprecher’s Pub (attached to The Cove in Lake Geneva) or Gino’s East Pizzeria are just across the street.  You can also enjoy outside dining at Scuttlebutts, Popeye’s or Speedo’s Harborside Cafe overlooking the lake on Wrigley Drive.

Lake Geneva Concerts in the park start at 7:00 p.m.  Bring your own lawn chairs or picnic blankets as seating is on a first come-first served basis.  Here’s the entire line up of performers for the remainder of the summer!

Music By The Lake Concert Series Starting in Williams Bay WI

Every summer residents and visitors alike look forward to the Music by the Lake Concert series in Williams Bay, WI.

Music by the Lake offers a variety of selections this year that will appeal to multiple audiences.  This week the first performance of the season is scheduled for July 7th at 7:30 p.m.  This show is featuring Steve Lippia in “Simply Sinatra.”  The “Singer’s Singer” and his 16-piece orchestra sizzle in an opening night of Sinatra’s greatest hits.

What Can You Expect at Music by the Lake?

First, the setting is breathtaking!  The concerts take place in the Ferro Pavillion at George Williams College Williams Bay, WI campus.  As you listen to the concert, you’re overlooking our beautiful Geneva Lake.  With the soft lapping of waves, the melodic rhythms of the performers and the overall air of an intimate concert, Music by the Lake sets itself apart from any other outdoor performance series in the Geneva Lake Area!

July 14, 2012 – The Four Freshmen and The Lettermen at 7:30 p.m.  Two of the most talented men’s vocal groups of all time present their signature standards in stunning vocal harmony.

July 21, 2012 – “Music in the Air” at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday July 22, 2012 at 4:00 p.m.  A revival of the 1932 musical includes the lush orchestral arrangements of Robert Russell Bennet, with score by Jerome Kem and book and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II.

Sunday July 29, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. Tom Chapin and Friends – Back by popular demand with Michael Mark and Jon Cobert in a concert of original songs designed to delight audiences of all ages.

Sunday, August 5, 2012 at 4:00 p.m. Anderson and Roe - Two of the finest young pianists on the scene taking the world by storm with their spectacular keyboard creations.

August 11, 2012 – Million Dollar Quartet at 7:30 p.m.  A concert version of the musical celebrating the recording session that brought together Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins.

August 18, 2012 – Cheap Trick at 7:30 p.m. Combining British pop songcraft, crunching power chords and a flair for the absurd, Cheap Trick takes the stage delivering a mix of ’60s pop, heavy metal and punk. Buckle your seat belts for the electrifying final concert of the 2012 season!

4th of July Activities for Fontana and Lake Geneva WI

4th of July in Lake Geneva, WI and surrounding communities is really a big deal!  Why?  Because it celebrates our freedom, but also because it’s the height of the summer for residents and vacationers alike!

With the 4th of July comes fireworks, parades, bar-be-ques and great times on the water!  The communities around Geneva Lake really go all out to make sure the holiday is celebrated and enjoyed by all.  This year the 4th of July falls on a Wednesday.  We anticipate people taking the entire week off work to make it a full vacation for their families, or taking the following Thursday and Friday off for an extended weekend in Lake Geneva.

If you’re looking for things to do in Lake Geneva with kids for the 4th of July, here’s a list of local activities:

Grand Geneva Fireworks Celebration - Lake Geneva, WI

Locally, The Grand Geneva Resort & Spa has become known for their festive, fun Independence Day celebrations!  This year the Grand Geneva’s Fireworks is on Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012.  Highlights including picnic food, games, kid’s activities, a water ski show and their Grand Fireworks display. New this year, all guests are invited to a party in the Grand Ballroom to enjoy live entertainment after the fireworks.

Grand Geneva invites the residents of the surrounding communities and travelers alike to their spectacular events on July 3 that will support a great cause. They will once again partner with the Lake Geneva Area Food Pantry by asking each attendee of the fireworks show to donate two non-perishable items that will be used to help the local community members in need.

In addition, Grand Geneva Resort has additional activities planned throughout the week.  Sunday, July 1, enjoy a concert by Trippin Billies outside at the ski chalet (Community also invited, $10/person). Fireworks display presented by the Village of Fontana Wednesday, July 04, 2012 Dusk to 10:00 p.m. Show starts at dusk on the beach in Fontana.

Geneva National 4th of July BBQ and Fireworks

Enjoy a traditional holiday picnic and fireworks at Geneva National! Taking place on Wednesday, July 4th, Geneva National will have inflatable games for the kids and more will be available on the driving range. A BBQ picnic and bar is open to the public in the pavilion behind the Clubhouse. The fireworks start around 9:15pm and are one of the best displays in the area. Fireworks are free and food and beverage ala carte.

Delavan – Cancelled due to dry weather!  Stay Safe everybody! As we start this wonderful holiday week, we hope you and your family have a wonderful 4th of July!  Please remember to be careful with the fireworks if you are using them around your homes as we’ve had an incredibly hot and dry summer thus far.  Several of our local volunteer fire departments have shared concerns and warnings for home firework displays because of dry, brittle lawns.  So enjoy the time, make memories and plan to make it a tradition to visit Lake Geneva, WI every year for the 4th of July!

Looking for Things to Do in Lake Geneva This Weekend – June 22-24

If you’re looking for things to do in Lake Geneva, WI this weekend, there’s plenty of things to choose from!

The Vespas are Here! June 21-24th in Lake Geneva WI

Lake Geneva, Wisconsin is playing host to Vespa scooter owners from across the country this weekend.  The Vespa Club of America (VCOA) is holding their 20th Anniversary celebration in Lake Geneva.  The festivities started on Thursday, June 21st and continue all through the weekend.  Activities to note, on Saturday the 23rd at 11:00 a.m. they are going to attempt to set a Guinness World Record for Longest Scooter Parade.  Anybody that is a scooter owner can participate.  (Note, because it is a world record attempt only scooters are allowed to participate in this 2 mile ride through downtown Lake Geneva.)  If you want to participate, you need to register at Midwest Action Cycle, 251 Host Drive, Lake Geneva, WI from 8:00 - 10:30 a.m.  This ensures you and your scooter get counted in the world record attempt!

There is also scooter only parking on Wrigley Drive (which will be closed Friday and Saturday to any other vehicles).  The festivities and celebrations will take place around Lake Geneva and commence in Flat Iron Park, the triangle between Wrigley Drive and Center Street (in front of The Cove and Sprecher’s Restaurant.)

If you’d like to get out and enjoy the beautiful weather this weekend, Sunday June 24th is the Bigfoot Triathlon at Big Foot Beach.  It starts with a swim in the crystal clear water of Geneva Lake, then has a great bike ride along the south side of the lake on gorgeous paved country roads and finishes with a run through Big Foot State Park.  Registration closes Friday at 10:00 p.m. if you want to enter!

If you’d like to see some of the beautiful estates and Lake Geneva mansions that date back over 100 years, you really should take a walk along the lake path!  The lake path runs along the shoreline around the entire lake.  If you walk the entire path, it’s 21 miles.  However, you can get on the path at various locations around the lake and walk different stretches!  In Lake Geneva you can walk the South shore of the lake right off Wrigley Drive!  You can also pick up the lake path just off library park and you’ll be able to walk the north side of the lake toward Williams Bay!

Walking the Lake Geneva Lake Path – Fun Things to do in Lake Geneva with Kids

It doesn’t matter if it’s 90 degrees and summer or a brisk fall day, one thing is for certain.  The Lake Geneva lake shore path is sure to provide you with great exercise, stunning scenery and a tour of the history of Lake Geneva!

Lake Geneva Shore Path WIOne aspect that people recognize when they hear about Lake Geneva WI is that the lake is surrounded with beautiful estates and mansions.  When people plan their vacation in Lake Geneva or Fontana, one thing they always look forward to sharing with their kids are tours around the lake to admire many of the historic mansions around the lake.  There are professional tours, like the Lake Geneva Cruise Line boat tours that run 7 days a week through out the summer months.  You can also take a self-guided tour using a handy pocket book entitled: Walk, Talk & Gawk – A Map and Guide of the Geneva Lake Shore Path.  This guide can be purchased at a number of locations around Geneva Lake including The Cornerstone Shoppe in downtown Lake Geneva.

If you’re really up for exercise, the entire Lake Geneva Lake Shore Path stretches 21 miles around the lake.

Bistro 220 – Great Valentine Dinner Idea in Lake Geneva WI

Bistro 220 Lake Geneva WIIf you’re looking to surprise your sweetie this Valentine’s Day, why not come to Lake Geneva, WI?  It’s the perfect backdrop for a romantic evening.

This year, Bistro 220 will be open on Tuesday, February 14th specially for Valentine’s dinner.  Creating a special menu designed to sweep your Valentine off her (or his) feet!  Bistro 220 is located in the Lake Geneva Courtyard Building on Cook Street.  Prior to Bistro 220, the history of the Cook Street building was not that of shopping, dining and dancing!

The Lake Geneva Courtyard was originally a multi-family piece of real estate that had been run down, riddled with graffiti and really was not the nicest of neighbors for the surrounding downtown Lake Geneva and the Lake Geneva Historical District.  The property was zoned residential so the process to go from 4-family real estate to a commercial property was a long process.

The process began in 2007.  An offer was made on this piece of Lake Geneva real estate, with the condition that the new owners could get the building re-zoned.  After many meetings presenting their plans for the property to the City’s Planning Division and the City Council, they finally got the approval and zoning they needed to go ahead with the renovations!

Summer Vacation Ideas – Things to Do in Lake Geneva with Kids

Things to do in Lake Geneva With KidsSummer Vacation is here, have your kids started on “I’m bored” yet?  If you’re looking for things to do in Lake Geneva with kids, the Lake Geneva Library has a fun opportunity for kids of all ages.

There’s nothing better than sharing a story with kids to help them feel involved in the story.  The Lake Geneva Public Library is offering the Summer Storywagon again this summer.  The Summer Storywagon has performers that act out and tell stories to children to bring them into the story.  This summer there will be 3 different stories to take your children to.

The schedule for Lake Geneva Public Library is:

Monday, June 27, 1:30 pm: Mama Baer will tell folktales from around the world. With the help of children providing the sounds of animals or the chant of a hero, these tales can come to life in the imagination of each child.

Monday, July 11, 1:30 pm: Storyteller and actor Cris Fascione will bring contemporary and traditional children’s literature to life with his high-spirited performance. Using a combination of storytelling, mime, clowning and juggling, his shows attempt to educate, entertain and lead children into the world of books.

Monday, July 18, 1:30 pm: Musicians Fox & Branch make everything they play their own, while respecting and carrying on the traditions of the music that inspires them.
