Antique Boat Show Coming to Lake Geneva WI this Weekend

Lake Geneva BoatingThe Geneva Lakes Annual Classic & Antique Boat Show will taking place this weekend!

The 2012 Antique Boat show will take place at the Abbey Resort in Fontana, WI.  This is a great time for boat lovers young and “less young” to come out and see some gorgeous wooden boats.  Scheduled this year for September 28- 30, the show will feature classic and vintage boats from all over the country.  The show is open to the public to view the boats on Saturday and Sunday.

In addition to the boats being in the Abbey Harbor over the weekend, on Friday, boat enthusiasts are invited to take a lunch cruise and tour 3 estates around Geneva Lake.  This year, the estate tour will be followed by a wonderful lunch at Lake Geneva Country Club.  Friday evening there’s a special cocktail party and dinner at Pier 290 in Williams Bay.

Fontana Paddle Company Hosting Charity Event on Lake Geneva Wisconsin

Fontana Paddle Company - Providing "Green" Fun on the West End of Lake Geneva, WI

Fontana Paddle Company is hosting an exciting charity event on May 12th 2012 on the west end of Lake Geneva.

Paddle boarding has become a very popular across the country for a number of reasons.  First, it’s fun!  Second, it gives you a great chance to be on the water without needing a motorboat or a jet ski.  Third, it’s green and since we just celebrated Earth Day, that’s and area where we all can help the environment.  Lastly, it’s great exercise!

Fontana Paddle Company is the local expert on the West End of Lake Geneva in all things ”paddle” – From kayaking to stand up paddle boarding, they will answer your questions, give you a lesson and help you enjoy the water in a non-motorized, peaceful way!

Coming up on May 12th Fontana Paddle Company is hosting their 2nd annual “Ice Breaker” party to welcome summer on Lake Geneva.  The goal is also to raise money for a very worthy cause and kick off the paddling season at the Fontana Paddle Company.  The festivities will begin right at 10 AM (sign-in at 9:30AM) and run until 2 PM on the second Saturday of May, including a 1 Mile Relay Kayak Challenge; an Open House with equipment demos and clinics; and, a pre-season equipment “Blow-Out” sale on new and used equipment.

All proceeds from the event will go towards the purchase of water rescue equipment for the rescue boat operated by the Fontana Rescue/EMS squad. The Fontana Rescue/EMS squad will also be grilling and selling brats, chips and pop for the event.

The “Ice Breaker” Kayak Challenge is a 1 mile tandem kayak relay race that will launch from the public beach in Fontana. Kayaks and all necessary equipment will be provided for up to 36 teams. The entry fee for each team, consisting of a minimum of four people and a maximum of eight people, is only $60. The focus of the race is on fun as opposed to competition and it is open to all ages, families and friends; everyone is invited to get out and enjoy the lake.

Prizes will be awarded for “Best Team Name” and “Best Team Spirit,” as well as the top finishers. Prizes include t-shirts, posters, Paddle Company gift certificates, and a special Sunday Brunch package, provided by the Abbey Resort, a participating event sponsor.

The “Ice Breaker” is also an Open House that is free and open to the public.  You can stop in throughout the morning and check out any of Fontana Paddle Company’s free clinics on kayaking, stand-up paddle board, paddle board fitness, rowing and sailing.   The clinics are being taught by individuals who are passionate about their chosen sport, and will take place throughout the event. You are sure to learn something interesting and possibly even pick up your next favorite pastime.

Looking for Things to Do in Lake Geneva WI this Weekend

things to do in lake geneva wiLooking for fun things to do in Lake Geneva this weekend?  Well, here’s a few ideas to get you in the Christmas spirit!

This weekend, December 16 – 19th there’s plenty of fun activities going on around Lake Geneva and Fontana, WI.  If you’re like us, you might just be still finishing your Christmas shopping (shhhhhh, don’t tell.)  Downtown Lake Geneva is such a special spot for shopping.  You can find so many great gifts that could only be from Lake Geneva.  For instance, The Cornerstone Shoppe and Gallery has beautiful hand painted Christmas ornaments that depict scenes around Lake Geneva.  You won’t find these in Chicago or anywhere else, so truly a special gift.

While you’re checking your list twice and making sure you’ve accomplished all your holiday shopping, head on down to Starbucks for a warm up and to have a picture taken with Santa.  This is the last weekend Santa, his elves and real live reindeer will be posed on the corner of Center and Main Street in Lake Geneva to greet good boys & girls.  From 11:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. you can pet the reindeer and snap a picture with Santa!

Lake Geneva Beer and Spirits Festival – A Spooktacular Event

There are plenty of things to do at Lake Geneva and it’s not just during the summer!  Lake Geneva Beer and Spirits Festival carries the fun & libations into Halloween weekend!

This year marks the second anniversary for the Lake Geneva Beer and Spirits Festival.  Several well know distilleries and some smaller craft breweries will be featured at the event.  You’ll be able to taste some very well know Wisconsin Breweries:  Capitol Brewery – Madison, Central Waters Brewery – Amherst, Sprecher’s Brewery – Milwaukee and New Glarus Brewing Company – New Glarus, WI.

One of the hometown favorite brewers that will also be featured is the Geneva Lake Brewing Company from Lake Geneva, WI.  Founded by Pat & Jon McIntosh – a local father & son team!  They started promoting their craft brews over this past summer and continue to grow.  The Lake Geneva Beer & Spirits Festival is a great opportunity to meet these great local entrepreneurs and sample their specialty beer.

The Water Safety Patrol is a private, non-profit organization to keep Geneva Lake safe and enjoyable for all. These men & women dedicate countless hours training and patrolling to make sure they are there in the event of accidents or emergencies.

Antique Tops the List of Things to Do at Lake Geneva WI this Weekend

Vintage is the new black – if you’re talking cars and boats in Lake Geneva WI this weekend!

The Abbey Resort Fontana WIIf you’re looking for what to do in Lake Geneva WI this weekend there will be a great display of preservation and pride in two great shows.  First, the International Boat Show takes center stage at the Abbey Resort, Fontana WI.  Over 100 antique boats from around the US and Canada will all be on display and being judged by the Antique and Classic Boat Society, Inc. (ACBS).  The ACBS is holding their annual meeting at The Abbey Resort in Fontana and as a benefit to boat enthusiasts around Lake Geneva, the boats will parade around the lake following judging at 4:00 pm on Saturday, Sept. 24th.

Finally, for those looking for a truly unique antique boat, there will be an auction of 75 vintage boats as the International Boat Show concludes.   There will be several vendors at The Abbey Resort to help answer any questions you have, introduce you to the newest products to outfit your boat whether it be brand new or vintage.

Lake Geneva Car ShowIf your sea legs are a little wobbly, but you appreciate history and character then the Geneva Lake Classic Car Rally might be more your style.  Running Friday, Sept 23 – Sunday Sept 25th, there are several events planned all around Lake Geneva.  Friday evening, Bella Vista Suites is hosting a meet & greet cocktail party to welcome classic car enthusiasts and get the engines revving!  Saturday, all the classic cars are on display early in the day throughout Lake Geneva.  At 11:00 a.m. there is a classic car parade through downtown Lake Geneva and ending at The Chalet at The Lodge at Geneva Ridge on Hwy. 50.  Saturday also offers a poker run, rally and soiree dance in the evening!

Finally, Sunday, September 25th the Geneva Lake Classic Car Rally has the conclusion of the poker run and the Grand Car ShowFinale with the People’s Choice Classic Car Rally Prize being awarded at 3:30 p.m.

4th of July Activities – Lake Geneva and Fontana WI

It’s hard to believe we’re rounding the corner to the 4th of July already!  The weather has just started to get summer-like in Lake Geneva and the lake traffic has really just started picking up.  If you’ve been reading my blog, you’ll know that this is the place to find out all about what’s going on in Lake Geneva and around the lake!  So here’s your options if you’re looking for things to do in Lake Geneva with kids for the 4th of July.

Fontana, WI

Fontana’s Independence Day Celebration is on the 4th.  All the activities take place on the lakefront beach with fireworks beginning at dusk.

The Abbey Resort & Spa have an entire weekend of activities planned to celebrate Independence Day!  Beginning on Friday, July 1st with a fish fry and jazz on the lawn.  Saturday evening they have a scrumptious prime rib buffet and live music.  The big party starts on Sunday, July 3rd and continues into Monday, the 4th of July for Fontana’s fireworks.  For more information about all the festivities check out the Abbey Resort’s Facebook Event Page!

Independence Day festivites are held at The Grand Geneva Resort and Geneva National golf club.

The Grand Geneva Resort is celebrating all day on Sunday, July 3rd.  This year, Grand Geneva is partnering with the Lake Geneva Food Pantry to benefit our community and those that need help.  They are asking that each attendee coming to the fireworks bring two nonperishable food items to be donated to the food pantry.  For the entire weekend of 4th of July Events at Grand Geneva, check out their website!  *Note: if you are looking for an extra special fireworks event (maybe you are going to propose or are celebrating an anniversary) the Embers Terrace is offering a very special package including dinner, dessert, drinks and a front row seat for the fireworks!  Click here for more info! Geneva National Golf Club

Geneva National on Hwy 50 between Delavan and Lake Geneva will be celebrating on Sunday, July 34.  They are planning a traditional barbeque picnic in the pavilion.  There will be inflatable games on the driving range and much fun for the kids.  Fireworks will begin around 9:15 p.m.

Delavan

Town of Delavan and the city of Delavan celebrate the 4th of July on both the 3rd and 4th.  On July 3rd, festivities take place in the Town of Delavan at the Community Park (the corner of Hwy. 50 and South Shore Dr.)  Parking is free and they have food, drinks, bing and tons of things to do for kids of all ages.  Fireworks begin at dusk.  On July 4th, the City of Delavan has their Let Freedom Ring celebration through downtown.  There’s a parade at 3:00 p.m. with entertainment, food and games following.  Fireworks are at dusk over Lake Comus.

Elkhorn

You can open your Independence Day weekend with an evening of fun in Elkhorn.  Friday, July 1st, the City of Elkhorn will host it’s Star Spangled Celbration from 5 – 9:00 p.m. at Sunset Park (200 Devendorf St.)  They have a great open air concert in the pavillion and firworks at dusk.
