Things to Do 365 Days a Year in Lake Geneva Wi: Where to Find 4th of July Fireworks

Independence Day is fast approaching, so here is the scoop on 4th of July fireworks displays in the Lake Geneva Wi area. Many communities around Geneva Lake put on their own shows on the night of the 4th, but Grand Geneva Resort does it a night before. July 3rd Grand Geneva has a great fireworks display over a pond on one of their golf courses. It is free and guaranteed fun. In addition to the fireworks, there will be games, face painting, crafts, and much more. All they ask is that you bring a few non-perishable food items as a donation to support the Lake Geneva Area Food Pantry.  The Grand Geneva Resort is located east of Hwy 12 and downtown Lake Geneva, on the north side of Hwy 50.

Fontana Wi and Geneva National both put on wonderful fireworks shows the evening of the Fourth of July. Fontana’s show is over the lake and is visible pretty much anywhere near the lake. It gets pretty crowded but the atmosphere is always very friendly and you can feel the excitement in the air, so it is a great experience. Just make sure to get there early to find parking – and bring a lawn chair and blanket.

Geneva National puts on a BBQ with their free fireworks show (although the food and bar is not free). Just head out to their club house to enjoy the food, drinks, and great entertainment. Geneva National Golf Club is located west of downtown Lake Geneva Wi, just east of Hwy. 67.  Reservations are necessary.

Things to Do in Lake Geneva Wi 365 Days a Year: Outdoor Dining Comes to Downtown Lake Geneva Wi

Dining in downtown Lake Geneva Wi is a wonderful way to explore the city. There are many restaurant options, from familiar chains like Potbelly’s and Jimmy Johns, to unique local cafes and bistros such as Simple Café and Popeyes.

This summer, the dining options will be even more exciting; the city of Lake Geneva recently passed an ordinance that will allow outdoor dining. Already, many restaurants have begun offering outside seating on the sidewalk. For example, Speedo’s Harborside Café, located by the Riviera, is doing great business with outdoor seating and a great view of the lake.

Last week, as I was strolling along the lakefront in front of Popeye’s I heard an accordionist entertaining diners. What a great way to enjoy al fresco dining!  Enjoying the wonderful weather and great views of Geneva Lake is sure to provide new life to all of the city’s dining options. Things to Do 365 Days a Year in Lake Geneva Wi: The Geneva Lake Water Safety Patrol

Boating on Geneva Lake is one of the most popular attractions in the Lake Geneva area. However, with all of that boat traffic on the water, it can get a little dangerous from time to time. Luckily, the Geneva Lake Water Safety Patrol does a wonderful job helping keep the lake safe and fun for all.

This private, non-profit organization has been operating on Lake Geneva for over 90 years providing services, such as lifeguarding at the many public beaches and on water emergency assistance. Director Ted Pankau oversees the WSP and its services: they offer swimming lessons at many beaches around the lake, lifeguard at 12 different beaches and piers and own 6 boats for patrolling the water traffic. Each summer the Water Safety Patrol teach hundreds of children how to swim; its lifeguards perform life-saving rescues at beaches; and  patrol boats tow watercraft to piers when they run out of gas or break down.

The Geneva Lake Water Safety Patrol is vital to keeping the lake safe for everyone’s enjoyment. However, it depends solely on donations to provide fulfill its role and provide services. To raise funds, the Water Safety Patrol hosts two events annually; a Benefit Dinner/ Dance and Auction , which this year will be held Friday, August 3rd at the Ferro Pavilion, Aurora George Williams University,  and a Cocktail Party to thank its benefactors. Attending one of these events is a great way to support the organization. Of course, you can always make a donation to this important Lake Geneva organization.

Day 47 of 365 Days of Things to Do in the Lake Geneva, WI area – Day 47 1st Annual Lake Geneva, WI Burger ThrowDown

The 1st Annual Lake Geneva, WI Burger ThrowDown is just a week away.  In true Bobby Flay style, The Abbey Resort & Spa will host  the First Annual Geneva Lakes, WI Burger ThrowDown Sunday, April 1st from 1-3pm. This event is being sponsored by the Geneva Lakes Chapter/American Culinary Federation, Culinary Arts students of Badger High School, The Abbey Resort & Spa and Consumers Meat Packing.

Badger High School Executive Chef, Russ Tronsen, Todd Wilkens from Consumers Meat Packing and The Lake Geneva School of Cooking Executive Chef John Bogan  will oversee this grilling event  at The Abbey Resort in Fontana, WI.

Things to Do 365 Days a Year in Lake Geneva WI: Day 25 – Star-Gazing on the Shores of Lake Geneva WI

If you want to be among those who will be star gazing on the shores of Lake Geneva, WI this week, consider Family Night Thursday, February 23rd at Yerkes Observatory in Williams Bay WI. Yerkes Observatory, located just west of the downtown Lake Geneva, WI shopping area, is part of the University of Chicago and Family Night is a great kid-friendly event. This week, Family Night at Yerkes Observatory  is all about Comets.  The program is geared  for students grades 4-8 and they, along with a parent, can participate in a hands-on activity – making a  cold-fizzing Comet.  There’s a $5 fee for the program, which includes the activity.  Plan on an after dinner time slot from 6-8pm. Music By the Lake Opening Night – July 2nd, Williams Bay, WI

Music by the Lake opens its 2011 season with E.T. has Close Encounters at Jurassic Park with Indian Jones in Star Wars…(say that 10 times fast!), Saturday, July 2nd at 7:30pm.  Arnie Roth and members of The Chicagoland Pops Orchestra will weave together the music of composer John Williams, including scores from some of the most popular box office hits in recent history including, of course, E.T, Jurassic Park, and Star Wars (click here to hear the Star Wars theme).

Music by the Lake is held each summer at Aurora-George Williams University, located at the intersection of Hwy 67 and North Lake Shore Drive in Williams Bay, WI.  If you’ve ever listened to music under the stars at venues such as Ravinia, you know the magic and delight that ensues when music, starlight, and a balmy summer evening you know it’s an opportunity not to be missed in the Lake Geneva area.  Saturday’s performance will be followed by a fireworks display – so be sure to watch the sky for the celebration for the topper of this very special summer event!

Lake Geneva Wi Celebrates May Days – Coming May 14th and 15th

Downtown Lake Geneva WI will be abuzz and abloom this coming weekend, May 14th and 14th with May Days.  Throughout the weekend, area florists and garden centers will sell fresh flowers and garden supplies at kiosks on the streets of downtown Lake Geneva. More than 25 retailers will have in store specials and give-aways.

While you’re exploring the Lake Geneva area, be sure to visit Bistro 220, located at 220 Cook Street, Lake Geneva, where author Tereasa Surratt will be signing her book, Very Modest Country Cottage Living.  After you pick up a copy, stay and enjoy lunch on the veranda overlooking the shops on Cook and Geneva Lake.
